Hello,
If you are familiar with Maharashtrian cuisine, you may have heard of Shikran Poli. For those who don’t know, Shikran is a simple dessert traditionally made with banana, milk, sugar and cardamom (elaichi), enjoyed on its own or paired with roti (poli). When served with poli, it becomes the much-loved Shikran Poli.
We usually made Shikran poli with bananas. With mango season in full swing, we thought of trying it with mangoes. And, it turned out well. 😋
As much as we enjoy traditional recipes, we also love giving them our own little twist. So, to make it more nourishing, we added a scoop of unflavored pea protein powder to the chapati dough and topped the dish with pumpkin seeds for some crunch.

Without further ado, let's jump into the recipe.

Method
- Mix wheat flour and pea protein powder. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough. Prepare chapatis as usual and apply ghee over them.
- Soak the chia seeds in some water and let it soak for at least an hour.
- Tear the chapatis into small pieces and place them in a serving bowl.
- Add the chopped mangoes.
- Pour in the milk, roasted pumpkin seeds and soaked chia seeds. Mix well. Adjust the quantity of milk to achieve your preferred consistency.
- Serve immediately and enjoy! 🍴😋
Tips
- If you prefer, you can replace pumpkin seeds with chopped almonds or pistachios.
- We prefer mild sweetness and didn’t add sugar. If you want, you can add ½ to 1 tsp sugar to your plate while mixing with milk.
- We added unflavored protein powder to increase the protein content in this meal. You can skip protein powder, make this with usual chapati and add protein sources (egg, curd, dal, soya etc.) in other meals.
