Seed cycling laddus- Part 2- Flax- Pumpkin seed laddu

Hello folks,

After a long post on seed cycling and sharing the recipe for sesame- sunflower seeds laddu, this post is a short read. You can skip to the recipe directly if you have a time crunch.

The way we started preparing this laddu comes from a decade of trial and error. Yes, you read it right, a decade of trial and error before landing on this combination of ingredients and ratio. Flax seeds was an ingredient unheard of when our trichologist suggested us to include it in our daily diet for managing hair fall (back in 2012, isn’t it interesting how time flies!). These brown seeds have a walnutty- flavour which was not accepted well by our palate and we still consumed it as we were at wits end to help our hair become healthy. Dates was another food item that was suggested to be taken daily. They say necessity is the mother of invention, it was proved right in this case when Subhashini grounded dates and flaxseeds together and made a laddu out of it. We tasted it and suddenly it seemed a lot more acceptable to our palates.

We did a lot of experimentation with various ingredients to prepare flaxseed laddu and each one was good in its own way. However, when we read about seed cycling concept, we thought of this combination and we must tell you that we loved it. So thought of documenting and sharing it here.

Flax- Pumpkin seed laddu

Ingredients:

Flax seeds- ½ cup

Pumpkin seeds- ½ cup

Black seeded dates: 19-20 no.

Roasted chana- 1/3 cup

Method:

  1. Heat a heavy bottomed pan. Add flax seeds and dry roast till you hear popping sound. Transfer the seeds to a plate.
  2. Now, add pumpkin seeds and dry roast. You will come to know that the seeds have roasted as they start to increase in size and there is slight change in color. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Remove the seeds from the dates, if applicable.
  4. Allow the seeds to cool. Now, add the flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and roasted chana to a mixer jar. Grind to a fine powder consistency.
  5. Now, transfer half the ground powder to a plate/ mixing bowl. And add half the dates to the mixer jar and grind well. Similarly, grind together the remaining dates with coarsely ground seed mix.
  6. Now, transfer it to the mixing bowl. Now, it’s time to become hands- on chef! Mix all the ground ingredients well and form laddus. You will get 16- 18 laddus from this mixture depending on the side of your laddus.
  7. Store well in an air-tight container and keep it in fridge.

These healthy seed laddus are ready to be savored.
