What they didn't tell you about peanuts 🥜?

Peanut butter is marketed by different brands for being protein rich and a great addition to your diet irrespective of the age group. However, they missed to tell you one important thing and that is the 'protein quality'.

A complete protein implies that it provides all the nine essential amino acids required to perform the functions in the body. Plant based protein sources are incomplete (except soyabean). However, when two complementary protein sources are consumed together, they provide us complete protein. Check out our article on complementary proteins to understand better.

Considering that peanuts are enjoyed as salted peanuts, peanut candy/ laddu, peanut butter sandwich/ toast, it is incomplete protein in itself. Unless it is paired up with the right food, our body is unable to get maximum benefit from the protein present in it.

Does that mean you stop enjoying crunchy peanuts? Of course not, you can instead pair with another protein source providing complementary amino acids (think pulses and legumes) to make it complete. Examples include peanut butter shake, a handful of peanuts and roasted chana, peanut dal, roasted peanuts added to sprouts/ chickpea salad.

An easy way to maximize the nutrition from the food we are eating, isn't it? Comment below your thoughts
